Bowlers Exhibition Centre   -  Returns August 2019

The North's Biggest SKA Festival

returns august 2019!

The Great Northern Ska Festival comes to Manchester and brings with it the most exciting bands of the genre. Including the Skatallites, Rhoda Dakar of the Bodysnatchers, From the Jeramiah Ferrari and more.

Ali Campbell's UB40 will headline the GNSKA Festival in August 2018 at Bowlers Exhibition Centre Manchester. This is an inddor festival so do not worry about the weather. As well as the great music you will find great food from a selection of caterers and some fantastic merchandise from a selection of traders at the event.

We have been working hard since the last event to confirm this year’s line up and what a line up we have. Headlining the event we have several high profile bands.

However, Johnny took over tenor sax duties, Dan is the new guitarist and Alex now plays bass, with the Great Northern Ska Festival gig at a rammed Bowlers in Trafford Park in August now seemingly a pivotal moment in the continuing MSF story.

Grab your pork pie hat and head down to this all-day celebration of ska and its many monochrome musical guises including American rhythm ‘n’ blues, rocksteady, reggae and 2 Tone. The line-up includes ska legends The Selecter, The Beat, Neville Staple (pictured above) and Dawn Penn, plus emerging talents such as Blank Cheque, By The Rivers and Manc music faves Jeramiah Ferrari.

For the festival Neville promises a set for the fans to treasure featuring his own material and some Specials’ classics.

Once again, I came into this festival slightly worried that as a twenty year old journalist wearing no boots, no braces, would I stick out? Of course, this was ridiculous. This is far from an exclusive skinhead original festival. Still in 2016 2Tone is bringing people together. Whereas in its prime it was famed for mixing different races, it now brings together people of all genders, backgrounds, ages and colours too. My first experience of the Ska revival, and I can assure you it won’t be my last.

Think ska and what you're talking about here is not just a musical sound but a community. Many of the great names from that community are on this bill - from Neville Staple (pictured) to The Selecter, The Beat, Rhoda Dakar, and Baked A La Ska.

A festival bringing you live entertainment & music, food & drink courts, merchandise stalls, entertainers, outdoor stages, funfairs, SKA TV, and 6000 like minded people.”
